We’re proud and honored to have the incredible women in our brewery and in collaboration with the Oahu Chapter of Pink Boots Society, we’ve created a very special brew: Nani Your BREWsness.
Pink Boots Society annually holds a brew day on International Women’s Day bringing recognition to women in the brewing industry. Hana Koa Brewing Co. had the pleasure of teaming up with the Pink Boots Society — an international organization of females in the beer industry.
We are very lucky to have our own female brewer, Lauren, who spearheaded this brew. She has been brewing with us since the start, alongside our Head Brewer, Josh. She has brought a wonderful dynamic to our team and our beers.
So why did we call it
"Nani Your BREWsness"?
We channeled one of our favorite lady-attitude anthems by Salt N Peppa:
"How many rules am I to break before you understand
That your double-standards don't mean shit to me?
I know exactly what you say when I turn my back and walk away
But that's okay 'cause I don't let it get to me...
So don't try to change my mind, I'll tell you one more time

As ladies in this male-dominated industry, we've dealt with our fair share of discrimination and/or sexism. We wanted to celebrate with the strong women in beer and the thick skin we've grown because of what we are passionate about. We love what we do and we are proud of the lengths we've gone to bring female diversity to the table.
Nani also means "female beauty" in Hawaiian, which ties into our theme of strong women, yet we actively try to bring an element of grace to the industry we work so hard to contribute to.
Tell me about the beer
We decided on a hazy IPA, because that's what us ladies at HKB like to drink! It is aggressively dry-hopped with 22 pounds of the Pink Boots blend thanks to Yakima Chief, giving the beer an aroma of lush lychee, spritzy pineapple, and papaya. Nani Your Brewsness at 6.7% ABV tastes like a juicy pineapple reminiscent of a tropical cocktail that takes you to vacationing on the beach.
This beer is juicy and lovely, yet sassy like our favorite 90's lady anthems that taught us to be bold.
